Fresh hop news from Lompocland
This just in from our friends at New Old Lompoc!
From the New Old Lompoc, 1616 N.W. 23rd Ave.; the Hedge House, 3412 S.E. Division St.; the Fifth Quadrant, 3901-B N. Williams, and the Oaks Bottom Pub, 1621 S.E. Bybee, all in Portland, Ore.
Two new beers will debut next week with an official release party at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Bailey's Taproom, 213 S.W. Broadway, at Ankeny.
But if you want to be first on your block to try them, they'll be on tap at all the pubs Monday, Oct. 1.
Both of these new ales use fresh Crystal hops.
Harvestman is a strong reddish Alt made with 60 pounds of fresh Crystal hops. It comes in at 7.8 percent alcohol, so it'll have plenty of flavor.
Star Of India is a pale ale, coming in at about 5 percent, so it's real drinkable.
In addition, the current batch of Proletariat Red is finished with 12-15 pounds of fresh Crystal hops.
This is all in association with the Oregon Bounty Fresh Hop Beer Tastivals, produced by the Oregon Brewers Guild.
You can sample more than 30 fresh hopped beers from Oregon's large and small breweries.
The festivals are: the Hood River Hops Festival, Saturday, Oct. 6; at McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale, Saturday, Oct. 13; at Ninkasi Brewing in Eugene, Saturday, Oct. 20; and at Deschutes Brewing in Bend, Saturday, Oct. 27.
So head on over to a Lompoc near you and have some real nice fresh beer!
"It's all about the hops!"

One of your neighbors has been guest-blogging for me about y'all's fresh hop stuff. I'll have to make a trip up there in the fall sometime, because I've never tasted them. Check it out: http://i-love-beer.blogspot.com/search/label/fresh%20hop%20beers
