pbr is deemed hip due to the guerilla marketing tactics employed by pbr's parent holding company. plus it's fairly inexpensive.
I think full sail's session is eating into pbr's share. session's marketing exudes retro-chic, but the same beer in a plain bottle and label would still be a high-quality product. I can't say the same thing about pbr.
I'm a light beer drinker. I love PBR for the price and for the light taste. Don't need the filling feelings of the darker beers, just need simple refreshment. Don't need the buzz either, ever try to get buzzed on PBR. It takes too much time. Been through all the craftsmen beer over the past 20 years, and loved it in my earlier days, now the system can't handle it, they keep me up at night from their high alcohol content and makes my tummy tooooo big. PBR is just right.
I tend to agree with Mr. Robo. PBR is f-ing cheap. Plus, there's that line in the movie Blue Velvet--I think that's a large part of it.
